Along the main street in Gränna, you can visit central Gränna's oldest peppermint rock candy factory, Tomtar och Troll Polkagriskokeri, during the summer. Here, you can watch skilled bakers create the famous peppermint rock candy by hand and experience the unique blend of flavour, craftsmanship, and tradition that makes the peppermint rock candy so special.

Since 1977, Tomtar & Troll has been part of Gränna's history, with a business started by Lena and Christer Madsen and now run by Claes and Therese Boberg. In the factory, peppermint rock candy are made in the same way as over 150 years ago, with genuine ingredients and craftsmanship that produce the characteristic chewy peppermint rock candy with over 30 different flavours to choose from.

A sweet paradise for all tastes

In addition to the classic peppermint rock candy, Tomtar & Troll also offers toffees, lollipops, fudge, and candies in various formats, such as jars, cones, and bags. This wide variety ensures that everyone can find something to their liking, from the classic peppermint to new, unique flavour combinations.

A summer ice cream favourite

Tomtar och Troll is open during the summer and also around Christmas. In the summer, they open the shop's ice cream corner, where the soft ice cream has become quite famous among visitors. For those who prefer scooped ice cream, that is also available as an option.

This is a popular activity for kickoffs, hen parties, and groups of friends. Together with an experienced baker, participants get to create their own pepparmint rock candy, which can then be packed and taken home as a tasty memory from Gränna. A minimum of five people is required per booking.

Amalia Erikson, the mother of pepparmint rock candy

The production of polkagrisar started in 1859 by the then-poor widow Amalia Erikson, who later became a successful entrepreneur. The then very popular polka dance gave the name to the polkagris, which became Gränna's main hallmark and one of Sweden's most popular souvenirs.
