Nature reserve with fantastic views of lake Vättern
Save
Between Jönköping and Bankeryd lies Häggeberg, where you can experience magical views of lake Vättern and enjoy a pleasant time at the barbecue area. Park your car at the dog training club, and take the 400-meter-long path up to the viewpoint and barbecue area. Here you can enjoy the view and your packed lunch.
Häggeberg nature reserve was established in 2018. The area covers 40 hectares, of which 36 hectares are forest and 4 hectares are pasture. The slopes have been difficult to use, which has allowed species to live in a stable environment. Several areas have older deciduous forests from multiple tree generations. This is important, as is the presence of old trees and abundant dead wood (standing or fallen trunks and branches).
The purpose of the reserve is to preserve and care for the mixed deciduous forest and its species, especially large noble deciduous trees and dead wood. Another purpose is to meet and develop people's needs for outdoor activities and nature experiences.
There is plenty of space to hike, enjoy nature, cycle, and train with dogs, primarily in the central parts of the area. Another appreciated outdoor environment is the planted beech forest located 300 meters west of the viewpoint. Pilgrimsleden Norra Sigfridsleden trail runs through the area, and there are also many riding trails nearby.
The right of public access (Allemansrätten) allows you to explore Sweden’s nature. This unique privilege is based on shared responsibility, requiring everyone to respect wildlife, nature, landowners, and fellow outdoor enthusiasts.
The usual right of public access does not apply fully in the nature reserve, read more at Länsstyrelsen.
Jönköping is one of Sweden’s oldest cities, beautifully located by the shores of three lakes. Discover magnificent nature, a long sandy beach right in the city, the fascinating history of the match industry, and the magical art of John Bauer! Stroll through charming alleys, visit museums and libraries, explore shops, dine at cosy restaurants, and stay at welcoming hotels. With a university that attracts students from all over the world, the city has a vibrant and international feel. Nature is always close—whether you’re into cycling, forest trails, or peaceful nature reserves.
