Where the city pulse slows down, nature's calm heartbeat picks up. Here, city and countryside meet and here you are always close to the green. The forests are magical, the lakes are sparkling and the views from the heights are magnificent. Hiking, golfing, cycling, climbing, skating, running, swimming? Here there are natural arenas for all kinds of adventures.

Everything from challenging MTB trails to quiet walking paths. Outdoor gyms and of course, places for rest and recreation. Jönköping has many green and beautiful places for a lunch break under the open sky, stretching after a run or a picnic at sunset. The municipality's green spaces and parks make up a whopping 1,375 hectares – they provide approximately 100 square meters per inhabitant.

 

Association life

With a central location in southern Sweden, several arenas such as Elmia, Spira, Husqvarna Garden and access to the natural environments found in the city, this is a place that has the capacity to arrange most things. From the autumn's annual horse festival Jönköping Horse Show to international rowing competitions in central Munksjön and mountain bike championships.

Jönköping is characterized by a strong association life. The municipality's association register contains 400 different associations in various areas. In 2017, Jönköping Municipality was named the year's community sports municipality, by Tidningen sport och affärer 2017, where SVT Sport gave us the title of Sweden's best sports city 2017.

Jönköping City Park

A park in the heart of Jönköping with beautiful untouched nature. On a hill with a fantastic view over the city lies Jönköping City Park. Experience untouched nature, the unique Bird Museum, the city's largest playground, animals, the Open Air Museum, women's paths, football, mini golf and outdoor dancing.

Sweden's ninth largest municipality

In 2022, Jönköping Municipality had a population of 145,114, which is an increase of 1,535 people since 2021. Jönköping Municipality is today the 9th largest of all 290 municipalities, if ranked by population.

Every week, approximately 15,000 people commute here from other locations.

Jönköpings läns museum

Take the chance to experience art and cultural history up close. At Jönköping County Museum there is a wonderful mix of culture with everything from John Bauer's fabulous art to Småland's cultural history and Viktor Rydberg's life story.

Tändsticksmuseet

There are only three match museums in the world, and one of them is the Match Museum in central Jönköping. It is located on the southern shore of Lake Vättern in a beautiful wooden building from 1848, classified as a listed building.
