Smörrebröd in historical building

Hot, cold, or warm. Meat, vegetarian, fish, or vegan. Gamla Rådhuset offers a variety of flavourful smörrebröd. The restaurant is housed in Jönköping’s historic old town hall, built in 1696, where the walls are steeped in history.

Since its construction, Gamla Rådhuset has been a central meeting place in Jönköping, and it remains so today. On the ground floor, the restaurant serves a selection of smörrebröd, prepared from scratch, along with daily lunch specials. The second floor has been transformed into a conference and event space.

Before opening in 2023, the building underwent careful restoration to return it to its original style. Plastic flooring was replaced with stone and wooden floors, and fluorescent lighting was removed in favour of restored 17th-century chandeliers found in storage. Many parts of the house, such as the staircase and some stone floors, date back to the 1600s.
