Domne river

Domne river flow into the lake Vättern just north of Bankeryd.

The rivers estuary is a wide ravine with peat and peatlands in the bottom. By studying peat layers and the geological formations around the river, we can learn a lot about the deglaciation and landscape development over the last 10 000 years.

Domne rivers Nature Reserve covers the ravine at Domne rivers estuary. The ravine has eroded down to a plateau of gravel and sand that was allocated during the ice melting.

Peat layers, which reaches a depth of 30 meters underwater current surface, shows the climate and vegetation changes for thousands of years ago. The marsh in the canyon spreads out as the lakes water rises. Animal marks on tree trunks show that beaver periodically occur in the area. Likewise, it happens that elk grazes in Domne rivers marsh land.
