Imagine falling asleep under the night sky and looking at the stars just like Per Brahe's students once did from the astronomy tower at Kumlaby church.
Staying for more than one day on Visingsö is a good idea as there is so much to experience and see. A convenient way to stay on the island is to camp. There are no regular campsites on Visingsö, but the right of public access External link. applies and means that there are several nice places where you can pitch your tent.
The right of public access (Allemansrätten) allows you to explore Sweden’s nature. This unique privilege is based on shared responsibility, requiring everyone to respect wildlife, nature, landowners, and fellow outdoor enthusiasts.
Enjoy the outdoors - but know the rules!
North of Visingsborg castle ruins there is a large area called ‘hotellplan’ where you’ll find a barbecue area and space to pitch a tent.
There is a whole oak forest in which you can find a spot to set up your tent. What you should keep in mind is not to camp in areas around ancient monuments such as Näs ruin and Visingsborg, where other rules apply because of their historical importance. You can also book a tent pitch at the Visingsö ställplats parking site above the harbour. There are good facilities here. You must be at least 25 years old.
On the southern tip of the island you will find Näs motorhome parking site where you find tent pitches. There is a toilet and a self-service kiosk.
