Kilometre-long sandy beach by lake Vättern
Save
Vätterstranden stretches from Rosenlund in the east to the centre of Jönköping in the west. The kilometre-long sandy beach offers both swimming and nice places to hang out. A large grassy area lies at one end of the beach where you can find a volleyball court and a playground.
A promenade runs along the entire length of Vätterstranden, where you can walk, maybe do some inline skating or take a jog. In the eastern part there are volleyball nets and you can also play street basketball here. In the summer, Friskis och Svettis gym runs fitness classes on the large grass area.
This is also a good place to hang out in the sun, have a picnic, and there are barbecue grills in a few places along the beach as well. The beach is busy in summer, but who can resist soft sand and clear water?
A short walk will take you to the centre of Jönköping with its full range of shops and eateries.
Vätterstranden is easy to get to by bus, bike or on foot. There is a cycle path that takes you conveniently to and from Jönköping city centre, and also to and from Huskvarna. Parking is available on the streets in the surrounding area.
Jönköping is one of Sweden’s oldest cities, beautifully located by the shores of three lakes. Discover magnificent nature, a long sandy beach right in the city, the fascinating history of the match industry, and the magical art of John Bauer! Stroll through charming alleys, visit museums and libraries, explore shops, dine at cosy restaurants, and stay at welcoming hotels. With a university that attracts students from all over the world, the city has a vibrant and international feel. Nature is always close—whether you’re into cycling, forest trails, or peaceful nature reserves.
