Hike in Strömsbergsskogen

Discover a nature reserve that has something for everyone. Strömsbergsskogen has trails for horse riders, cyclists and hikers. This area also offers the perfect opportunity for playtime, barbecues or just some relaxing downtime in nature.

Strömsberg Nature Reserve is located on a hillside that offers beautiful and varied landscapes of forests, pastures and ravines with winding streams. The area is a well-visited outdoor recreation area with opportunities for both physical activity and relaxation. The reserve has an abundance of wildlife and you can find traces of animals such as elk, hare, badger and deer there.

The nature reserve is ideal for a leisurely ramble, but if you fancy a more definitive hike, then you can try the 3.4 km Strömsberg - Red trail or the 5.6km Strömsberg - Yellow trail. The Södra Vätterleden trail, which is part of the Smålandsleden trail, also runs through the nature reserve.

You'll find plenty of ideal places for a picnic and also larger barbecue areas, several of which are adapted for larger groups and are sheltered with a roof.

Nature and history

Strömsberg Nature Reserve is located on the eastern slope of the Jönköping valley near Ljungarum. The area consists of old, overgrown pasture and cultivated agricultural landscape.

A number of giant trees remain from the time when the area was used as grazing pasture, including an impressive lime tree and several old oaks, the oldest of which is over 600 years old. There are also many old crab apple trees.

Strömsbergsskogen is a fantastic place to visit in the spring, when the ground is covered in flowering wood anemones and bluebells. The nature reserve is also home to plants such as dog mercury, wood stitchwort, meadow horsetail and ladyfern, as well as less common species such as lungwort, wood-sedge, coralroot and wood millet.

The Vassnöden farm cottage can be found in the south-eastern part of the reserve. Vassnöden was inhabited until 1970, after which the cottage fell into ruin and its surroundings became overgrown. In the 1990s, the land was cleared and is now used for grazing again.
