If you love cycling and want to enjoy breathtaking natural scenery, this is the perfect route for you. The 420 km long journey takes you through cities, towns, and magnificent landscapes, often with stunning views of Lake Vättern. You can start your ride anywhere along the route.

Attractions and points of interest around the lake

The cycle route is well-marked with blue signs and passes through smaller towns such as Hjo, Habo, Vadstena, and Askersund. Along the way, you can visit famous landmarks like:

  • Ellen Key’s Strand
  • Omberg Nature Reserve
  • Övralid
  • Lake Tåkern

As you pass Gränna, you can:

  • Watch traditional polka candy being made
  • Visit Grenna Museum, which tells the fascinating story of Andrée’s Arctic expedition

Vätternrundan – the world’s largest recreational cycling event

The famous Vätternrundan, the world’s largest cycling event, follows parts of the Runt Vätternleden route.

Held annually in June, Vätternrundan starts and finishes in Motala and is a key part of "En Svensk Klassiker", a Swedish endurance sports challenge.
