Save
Visingsö’s oldest and family-friendly restaurant by the harbour serves organic food with stunning views of Lake Vättern and Gränna.
At Solbacken, Visingsö’s oldest restaurant, you can choose from a wide variety of well-prepared dishes. The menu includes everything from coffee and pastries to three-course meals featuring seared Arctic char fillet, beef tenderloin plank steak, or hot-smoked whitefish from their own smokehouse.
The restaurant also offers a wide selection of pizzas, kebab plates, veggie burgers, hamburgers, and chickpea patties. Solbacken caters to vegetarians and vegans with diverse menu options.
Solbacken is open during the summer from May to September but also welcomes group bookings before and after the season.
From the spacious outdoor terrace, you can enjoy stunning views of Lake Vättern and Gränna on warm summer days. There’s also indoor seating, which offers the same breathtaking views.
Solbacken places great emphasis on sustainability and the origins of its ingredients. The restaurant is KRAV-certified, and many of the ingredients served come from Visingsö. Potatoes are grown at Bengtsgården, located on the southern part of the island, where they also smoke the fish and produce KRAV-certified cold-pressed rapeseed oil. These are just some of the local products featured on the menu.
Solbacken has its own bakery, where they bake all the bread and pastries for the café using their own KRAV-certified flour. During the summer months, you can also pre-order freshly baked breakfast rolls.
The restaurant’s garden includes a playground for children to run and play in. Below the outdoor terrace, there’s also a slide for kids to enjoy.
The restaurant is within walking distance of Visingsborg Castle Ruins and the horse-drawn carriage tours (Remmalagen). If you’re planning a tour of Visingsö, you can cycle through the oak forest to Bengtsgården and visit their petting zoo.
Take the ferry from Gränna to Visingsö, a gem in Lake Vättern with stunning nature and a rich history tied to the powerful Brahe family. Don’t miss Brahe Church, home to a wealth of artistic treasures. The island is easy to explore by bike or by horse-drawn carriage – remmalag. Here, you're close to nature and can meet alpacas, go horseback riding, or paddle a kayak.
