Experience Österängens konsthall – a platform for Swedish and international contemporary art. With a focus on openness, collaboration, and diversity, the gallery highlights young, urban art and culture. The art gallery features its own workshop where children and youth can explore their creativity alongside art educators.
Like Tensta Konsthall, Botkyrka Konsthall, and Konsthall C in Farsta, Österängens konsthall works to make contemporary art accessible to all. Age or background should never be a barrier. The art hall creates opportunities for people from different walks of life to connect.
Österängens konsthall draws on local expertise and collaborates with artists, organizations, and businesses. With 300 members, it is one of Jönköping’s largest cultural associations, run by a nonprofit organization of the same name.
The gallery hosts several major exhibitions annually, showcasing installations, video art, painting, sculpture, and drawing. Recent exhibitions have featured artists like Carolina Falkholt, Nina Hemmingsson, and Johanna Billing.
Since Österängens konsthall’s founding in 2015, around 15 public artworks have been installed in Österängen, Huskvarna, and around lake Vättern.
Notable projects include “Nature Takes Over,” which explores biodiversity through seven unique works. The latest additions are part of “Kojan,” a project where artists Aghili/Karlsson, Robin Tidblom, Ruben Wätte, and Lekkontoret collaborated with local children to create playful public sculptures.
Guided tours of the sculpture park are regularly available; details can be found on the art hall’s website. Visitors exploring independently can pick up a map at the art hall.
Every Sunday afternoon, the children’s workshop welcomes kids aged 6–12 to create and learn new techniques. Inspired by the current exhibitions, children craft their own art alongside an art educator. Children under six must be accompanied by an adult.
During summer, Österängens konsthall offers various creative activities for children and youth. Visit osterangenskonsthall.se External link. or their Facebook page for more information.
Studio476 is the art gallery’s experimental space, available for members to host their own exhibitions. Located between the art hall and library, the space is accessible even during library hours.
Art and fika are a perfect match! The café at Österängens konsthall offers delicious treats, sandwiches, savory pies, ice cream, and refreshing drinks. The café focuses on locally produced, organic, and Fairtrade products, with plenty of vegetarian options. All baked goods come from Café Stadsparken in Huskvarna.
