Experience Kulturhuset Spira, Sweden’s first eco-cultural house. Designed by Gert Wingårdh, this landmark in the heart of Jönköping is a space for people and professional performing arts.
Kulturhuset Spira is home to Smålands Musik & Teater, which produces theatre, music, dance, and musicals for children, youth, and adults across and beyond Jönköping County. The building also houses the Jönköping Sinfonietta.
This 15,000-square-meter building sits next to and is beautifully reflecting in Lake Munksjön. Playful and dynamic, it features four stages accommodating up to 1,700 visitors. The venue also has a restaurant serving lunch, pre-show menus, and refreshments.
In addition to art, music, and theatre, Spira is a hub for meetings, conferences, and congresses. It offers both large conference rooms and smaller meeting spaces.
Spira was designed by Gert Wingårdh and Jonas Edblad of Wingårdh Architects. Its façade of white and orange-red glass spirals around the building, inspiring its name, “Spira.” (Eng: to sprout).
Inside, Småland glass and wood blend harmoniously with Öland limestone. The grand glass artwork “Spiral Lamp” by Ingegerd Råman shines beautifully, inviting visitors into a world of imagination.
Outside, near the water, you’ll find several metallic sculptures called "Sunflowers," created by artist Milo Lavén.
Kulturhuset Spira is Sweden’s first eco-cultural house, embodying a comprehensive environmental profile. It features optimal energy efficiency and exclusively eco-approved construction materials. Spira actively promotes sustainability throughout the venue, from recycled props and sustainable technology to handmade, recycled costumes and masks crafted in-house.
At restaurant Spira, you’ll enjoy locally sourced ingredients in a stunning setting with breathtaking views of lake Munksjön. The restaurant, which seats over 150 guests, is located in Kulturhuset Spira, Sweden’s first environmentally certified cultural center.
On warm and sunny days, the restaurant expands with a lovely outdoor terrace featuring evening sun and panoramic lake views. In addition to the main restaurant, there’s a bar on the first balcony and the option for service in select event halls. The restaurant is also available for private group bookings.
Operated by FC Gruppen, restaurant Spira prepares all meals from scratch using locally sourced ingredients. They serve daily lunch specials, theatre menus, and coffee breaks. The lunch menu focuses on Swedish home-style dishes, including Spira’s homemade meatballs with lingonberries, creamy gravy, and mashed potatoes. Other options include the catch of the day, a vegetarian dish, and the daily special. A generous salad bar with fresh salads, accompaniments, and bread complements every meal. Finish your lunch with coffee and a sweet treat.
Enhance your theatre visit with a pre-show meal or a snack during intermission. Options include canapés, open sandwiches, and other small dishes. Spira’s theatre menu features dishes crafted with ingredients from local producers. Groups of 30 or more can pre-order a theatre buffet.
