Cathannas Polkagris

Located in one of Gränna's oldest buildings from the early 1700s, Cathanna Polkagrisar offers a genuine taste experience where both tradition and innovation come together. Here, you can experience peppermint rock candy production up close in a cosy and personal atmosphere.

Since 1989, the Lund-Persson family, led by Jane, has run Cathanna Polkagrisar. Cathanna is known for its impressive range of candy canes with over 50 different flavours, from classic peppermint to liquorice, raspberry, and other unique varieties.

All candy canes are handmade on-site, and the open gallery in the shop allows visitors to follow the entire baking process and talk directly with the bakers.

Gränna's only almond roastery

In addition to peppermint rock candy, Cathanna also offers Gränna's only almond roastery, where the scent of roasted almonds spreads from the shop to the city's streets. With its secret, carefully crafted recipe, the family has managed to create an irresistible delicacy that many visitors return for year after year.

Amalia Erikson, the mother of peppermint rock candy

The production of polkagrisar started in 1859 by the then-poor widow Amalia Erikson, who later became a successful entrepreneur. The then very popular polka dance gave the name to the polkagris, which became Gränna's main hallmark and one of Sweden's most popular souvenirs.
