Along the E4, at the "Gyllene Uttern" exit, you'll find Cabbe Polkagrisfabrik – a place where you can see, learn, and taste Gränna's famous peppermint rock candy in more than 50 different flavours. Here, the polkagrise tradition is combined with comfortable facilities, ample space, and proximity to nature, making the factory an excellent stop along the way for both large and small groups.

At Cabbe, you can enjoy freshly made peppermint rock candy, refreshing ice cream, coffee, and a fantastic view of Lake Vättern. The factory offers more than 50 different flavours of polkagrisar, ranging from the classic peppermint to new varieties with fruity and spicy notes. Visitors get a unique opportunity to follow the entire candy cane production process, thanks to their large viewing room inside the premises.

A convenient stop along the way

Cabbe Polkagrisfabrik is easily accessible for visitors travelling along the E4 and offers generous parking spaces that can accommodate buses. The large shop, several outdoor areas, and toilets right outside make it an ideal place for a break. With a fantastic view of Lake Vättern, you can enjoy the surroundings before continuing your journey.

Amalia Erikson, the mother of pepparmint rock candy

The production of polkagrisar started in 1859 by the then-poor widow Amalia Erikson, who later became a successful entrepreneur. The then very popular polka dance gave the name to the polkagris, which became Gränna's main hallmark and one of Sweden's most popular souvenirs.

In 2022, Gränna polkagrisar received the EU designation PGI (Protected Geographical Indication), which means that only polkagrisar made in Gränna can be called "Genuine Gränna Polkagrisar."
