Hiking in Huskvarnabergen naturreservat
Save
Take on the challenge and experience Brunstorpsleden - a tough hiking trail with many beautiful viewpoints over lake Vättern.
Brunstorpsleden is a hiking trail suitable for those who enjoy steep passages and significant elevation gain over a relatively short distance. The elevation difference is 100 meters on the 3.9 km long loop that starts and ends at Brunstorps gård.
It is recommended to start the hike northward, but regardless of which direction you choose, the trail will start steeply uphill. Halfway along the trail, you reach the top of Brunstorpsberget with several fantastic spots perfect for a picnic stop with panoramic views over lake Vättern. The plateau is also a starting point for paragliders.
Huskvarnabergen naturreservat consists of a 3.5-kilometer-long stretch of the fault scarp towards lake Vättern and the height plateau to the east, where the highest parts are over 300 meters above sea level. The fault scarp was formed a billion years ago when the Vättern basin and its highland surroundings were shaped by movements in the Earth's crust. The powerful geological events can also be sensed in the plateau in the eastern part of the reserve, which is strongly hilly.
Huskvarnabergen naturreservat is part of Biosfärområdet Östra Vätterbranterna. Östra Vätterbranterna is one of around 700 biosphere areas in the world – and one of seven in Sweden.
The area is designated by UNESCO for its unique nature and serves as a model area for ecological, economic, and social sustainability.
At the start and end of the trail lies Brunstorps gård. Beautifully located with a view of Lake Vättern, the garden is well worth a visit.
Brunstorps gård is a place where people have lived for more than 700 years. It houses a gene bank for fruit trees and a garden with a unique assortment of useful and ornamental plants. The farm serves as a living archive of older fruit varieties and other plants from Småland and Västergötland.
During the summer months, Brunstorps garden café opens with a wide range of coffee and light meals, and there is the opportunity to stay overnight in a cottage on the farm dating back to the 1300s.
Brunstorpsklippan offers excellent opportunities for tree climbing and bouldering.
The right of public access (Allemansrätten) allows you to explore Sweden’s nature. This unique privilege is based on shared responsibility, requiring everyone to respect wildlife, nature, landowners, and fellow outdoor enthusiasts.
The hiking trail passes through Huskvarnabergen naturreservat. The usual right of public access does not apply fully in the nature reserve, read more at Länsstyrelsen.
Gazing out over Lake Vättern, the giant Vist stands tall in Huskvarna. Here, striking contrasts meet — between stunning natural surroundings and the historic Husqvarna Factory, established in 1689 to produce weapons for the Swedish military. At the Husqvarna Museum, you can explore everything from sewing machines and motorcycles to modern-day chainsaws and lawnmowers. Nearby, Smedbyn offers a charming mix of history, art galleries, and craft studios. Since 1925, Huskvarna Folkets Park has been a beloved venue for music, theatre, festivals, and fairs.
