Experience the era when BP gas stations dotted Sweden's landscape
Save
For nostalgia enthusiasts, well-preserved gas stations and workshops hold a special charm. On Visingsö, you can take a step back in time to when BP gas stations were a familiar sight across Sweden.
Just over a kilometer from the harbour on the way to Kumlaby, you’ll find the BP-macken, an old gas station. The station has been meticulously restored to its original state, featuring the colours used before 1958 when BP updated its branding.
The building, originally a station at Östra Station in Norrköping from 1962 to 1974, was moved to Visingsö in the fall of 2003.
Adjacent to the gas station is the Nostalgia Museum, which showcases recreated environments from the past. Here, you can see:
The Nostalgia Museum is open during the summer months and hosts various vintage car and motorcycle meet-ups.
Just a stone’s throw from the gas station is Talay Thai, a restaurant serving authentic Thai cuisine.
Take the ferry from Gränna to Visingsö, a gem in Lake Vättern with stunning nature and a rich history tied to the powerful Brahe family. Don’t miss Brahe Church, home to a wealth of artistic treasures. The island is easy to explore by bike or by horse-drawn carriage – remmalag. Here, you're close to nature and can meet alpacas, go horseback riding, or paddle a kayak.
The BP gas station is hard to miss when travelling along the road between the harbour and Kumlaby.
