A circular trail of 24.5 km in hilly terrain
Save
Hike along the Bankeryd Trail through the parish of Bankeryd and experience the valley in which it is located. The trail also takes you into Högamon in Habo municipality and meanders through beautiful nature and hilly terrain.
On the walk, you might get the chance to see beavers or at least traces of beavers at work. The trail also offers a rich bird life and in late summer there are plenty of blueberries to pick along the way.
During your walk you will pass several ancient remains from the Stone and Iron Ages, but also traces of old settlements and the area’s industrial past. The trail passes, among other things, the remains of Alefors scissor factory, which opened in 1871 and closed in 1972.
The Bankeryd Trail starts and ends at the local heritage open-air museum, a stone's throw from Bankeryd church. The trail runs along the Domne river and through villages and farms. Your walk will take you along roads and paths, and in some places, these can become quite narrow.
Along the trail you’ll find two large, enclosed shelters, with a fire pit in the centre. There is also a simple toilet adjacent to the wild camping area. You’ll also find a smaller open shelter with a fire pit and a basic toilet. Take a packed lunch with you and enjoy eating it by the campfire.
By car
Good parking facilities at the open-air museum/church.
Public transport
You can also get there with public transport by taking bus number 26 from the travel centre in Jönköping. The stop where you should get off is called Kyrkskolan Bankeryd. The train station in Bankeryd is located 2km from the open-air museum.
