One of the most classic road cycling routes in the area passes the green and fruitful valleys of Skärstad and loops back around Lake Landsjön. Both new and inveterate cyclists will find this to be a useful and beautiful ride that invites you to stop more than once.
Regardless if you are looking for a nice cup of coffee, want to test your endurance or need a suggestion for an early bird bike ride before breakfast, this 45k route is just right. So get on your electric or touring bike and roll towards Huskvarna from Jönköping City. Making your way alongside Lake Vättern and let one of Swedens most stunning bicycling paths lead you towards the village of Kaxholmen and The Valley of Apples, locally referred to as the “Tuscany” of Jönköping. The Valley of Apples lies at the eastern shores of Vättern, since the area is favourable for farming there has been fruit and berry cultivation here since the 1930´s.
Going around Lake Landsjön is road cycling at its best, small country roads with epic views overlooking lakes and apple orchards instead of vines. You are now in the middle of one of UNESCO unique designated areas throughout the world confirmed as biosphere reserves, Östra Vätterbranterna.
Halfway around the Lake you could turn back towards Jönköping but to prolong this route instead aim at Skärstad and climb upwards to Lake Ramsjön. Here you will ride on surging roads through forests, typical for Småland. As a finale you will end up with a great view from the top of Huskvarna Mountain. If you are in the mood for more climbing and stunning views we also suggest a visit to Gestra, you will get a great view of both Lake Landsjön and Lake Vättern below.
Don´t miss the viewpoint at Vista Kulle, with the glittering Lake Vättern and City of Jönköping in the distant.
Gårdsrosteriet by Vista Kulle fruktodling. Coffee roastery
Rudenstams Butik & Café in the valley of apples.
Just after Vista Kulle you could take a short detour visiting Café Grafitgrå.
Returning to Huskvarna you will pass Kroatorpet.
Take a break and a bath at Hunnerydsbadet or Skarvesten
