Cycling to Gränna

Gränna is an idyllic Swedish town with beautiful small houses and paved roads. Placed on the shores of Lake Vättern 35k north of Huskvarna it becomes a great starting point or the end goal of a fantastic bicycle ride. When in Gränna you can pick and choose from picturesque cafés, and restaurants, the Polar Museum and a lot of historic remains. But foremost you need to get your hands on a “Polkagris”, The Peppermint Rock, the world famous local candy that will keep your energy up all the way home. From the harbour you can catch the ferry to Visingsö, an island that have played an important role in the history of the Swedish kingdom. Combine ancient history with some extra kilometers of great cycling roads.

Cycling roads with attractions

Cycling from Jönköping or Huskvarna to Gränna and back will take cyclists through the biosphere area Östra Vätterbranterna, one of UNESCO unique designated areas throughout the world confirmed as a biosphere reserve. Riding from Huskvarna towards Gränna you will be able to ride through the Valley of Apples, Äppledalen, and also passing a great view point at Vista Kulle on one of the most beautiful roads in the area. Small countryside roads that leads through the open landscape all the way to Gränna.

Heading back to Jönköping you could pass the old village of Röttle and its waterfall. A long climb passing under the main road (E4) and past Gränna Golf Club at Västanå Slott, a castle formerly owned by the powerful count Per Brahe. If you need another stop on the way back to the country side cafés of Flättinge or Rudu it’s just a short detour from the main road.

2.Going the distance 157km/1609hm

Long and varied route both in open landscape and forests typical for Småland. Passing beautiful Uppgrenna.

3.Gravel grinder, 71km/889hm

Experience the beauty of nature on both gravel and paved roads.

4.Climbing challenge 86km/1369hm

Eight hard climbs, and views, gives you an additional challenge when heading for Gränna.
