A road full of memories from the past

This route is special not only for its natural beauty but also for its historical and cultural landmarks.

For example, visit Brahehus, the ruins of Per Brahe’s castle, offering a fascinating insight into Sweden’s history. From here, you’ll also enjoy breathtaking views of lake Vättern, Visingsö, and the surrounding landscape.

An impressive oak forest and a lovely beach

Just north of Gränna, you’ll find the impressive oak forest in the Vretaholm Oak Woodland Nature Reserve. The forest is beautifully situated by the roadside below the Vättern escarpment, with trails leading to viewpoints and the steep path up to Brahehus.

On the other side of the road, by the shores of lake Vättern, lies the Girabäcken Nature Reserve, a former sandstone quarry now turned into a beach, ideal for picnics. The Girabäcken ravine, leading to the lake, features unique geological formations formed hundreds of millions of years ago.

Local food and crafts

Along the Tourist Route, you’ll find small, charming villages. Take a break in one of them and explore local shops and cafés, where you can sample regional specialties and handmade crafts.

Rest area Vida Vättern with a view

The Vida Vättern rest area offers stunning views of lake Vättern and is perfect for buying refreshments at the kiosk or enjoying a packed picnic. The surrounding stone piles and fences evoke memories of traditional grazing land, and the seating areas climb up a fairly steep, forested hillside.
