Encounter real John Bauer forests and experience waterfalls – a fun adventure even for children
Save
Experience enchanted nature and beautiful waterfalls on a hike along Hassafallsleden. The hike goes through lush greenery, the enchanting Hassafall waterfalls, and babbling water along Tabergsån. Despite some steep sections, the hike is suitable for most people.
Hassafallsleden is a loop trail of 3.3 kilometers that starts at Hovslätts Hembygdsgård heading north. You can also take a detour to see the view from Varkullen, making the loop a total of 4.1 kilometers.
Hassafallsleden is somewhat demanding but offers fascinating and exciting nature. It partly runs on narrow paths, some stairs, boardwalks, and bridges. The connecting trail Kallebäckleden lacks really steep sections.
Both Hassafallsleden and Kallebäcksleden are well marked with blue markers.
Hassafallsleden first follows Tabergsån downstream through lush alder forest and along the babbling water. A short distance further, at the confluence with Sandserydsån, the trail follows this upstream past the impressive environment around the Hassafall waterfalls.
In just under 2 km, Sandserydsån falls 110 meters, forming several waterfalls, the most famous of which is Hassafall. During snowmelt and heavy rain, the waterfalls are most impressive.
Take the opportunity to eat your packed lunch at Hassafall, where there are also two nice barbecue areas.
When you have climbed the stairs from the upper barbecue area at the waterfall, you will come to a fairy-tale world of moss and paths, right next to Sandserydsån. This can be a good place for children to play, as long as you ensure they do not get too close to the waterfall since you are above it.
Via enchanted forest paths and roads, the trail goes about halfway to the viewpoint Varkullen, which is located 228 meters above sea level. It is steep with several stairs to the top, and the path is not accessible if you are walking with a pram.
From the top of Varkullen, you get a captivating view over the southern Vätter region in all directions. To the north, you can glimpse Lake Vättern with Visingsö and Omberg - to the south, the mighty Taberg. This is also a good place to stop for a break.
From Varkullen, you can choose to continue west along Kallebäcksleden or turn downwards, back towards the homestead. Kallebäcksleden continues 4.1 kilometers southwest and ends at Skinnarebo.
If you continue along Kallebäcksleden, you pass older industrial buildings at Åsafors, an older water source, and the remains of Månestorps mill.
From Kallebäcksleden, there is a connection to Södra Vätterleden, which you can follow towards Norrahammar and Taberg, or west towards Bottnaryd.
Tabergs-å-leden also passes by Hovslätts Hembygdsgård.
Månsarp, Taberg, Norrahammar, and Hovslätt together form the Tabergsådalen, the valley through which the Taberg River flows. Here, you'll breathe in Swedish industrial history and encounter breathtaking nature, entrepreneurship, and creativity. At the top of Taberg, 343 meters above sea level, you can enjoy an incredible view while savoring the famous shrimp sandwich. Discover scenic hiking trails, Norrahammar Museum, the Tabergsgruvan and Bruket in Norrahammar
By car
You can park your car at Hovslätt Hembygdsgård.
Public transport
It is suggested to take bus no. 28 from Jönköping to the Hovslättsrondellen bus stop, which is located a stone's throw from the homestead.
