How it works

Hot air ballooning depends entirely on weather and wind conditions, as warm air provides lift, and the wind determines where you land. The ballooning season runs from April to September.

The full experience takes approximately three to four hours, with the actual flight lasting around one hour. Once airborne, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Each balloon flight is led by an experienced pilot, also known as an aeronaut, who navigates based on weather patterns to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey.

Hot air balloons

Modern hot air balloons operate on the principle that warm air is lighter than cold air. When enough warm air is pumped into the balloon, it becomes light enough to lift the basket and passengers. The air is heated using propane gas, which is burned in a powerful burner system.

It’s important to distinguish between hot air balloons and gas balloons. While hot air balloons rely on heated air for lift, gas balloons use a lighter-than-air gas, such as helium or hydrogen, to stay aloft.

A hot air balloon consists of three main parts:

  • Envelope – The balloon itself, made from polyester or reinforced nylon. The fabric is designed to retain heat, while strong "load tapes" reinforce the structure.
  • Basket – Woven from willow for strength and flexibility, ideal for smooth landings. The structural support includes oak planks and steel cables connecting the basket to the balloon.
  • Burner System – Includes gas cylinders, hoses, and a burner that heats the air inside the balloon during flight.
