The fantastic Vista kulle nature reserve offers beautiful views over lake Vättern
Save
Vista kulle's high elevations provide a stunning view over lake Vättern. After a short walk, you'll reach a perfect spot for your picnic at this nature reserve.
Vista kulle is located on the eastern shore of Lake Vättern, and the nature reserve is a popular excursion destination. Take the opportunity to enjoy your picnic while overlooking the Vättersänkan and Skärstadsdalen from the top.
It is said that the giant Vist, who created the island of Visingsö, lived on Vista kulle.
There are also remnants of an ancient fort that testify to the site's significant role throughout history.
Vista kulle mainly consists of greenstone, a rock that weathers easily. This has contributed to nutrient-rich soil with rare herbs such as lungwort, yellow anemone, and sweet violet. If you visit Vista kulle in the spring, you can witness the yellow spring onion blooming and lighting up the entire top.
Vista kulle also has cultural historical values with remnants of an ancient fort from the Migration Period, 400-500 AD. It is one of four known ancient forts in Jönköping County.
In the early 1900s, building stone was quarried on the western side of Vista kulle, making it very steep. During this period, a narrow-gauge railway passed by the hill and through the mountain, called the "Trådrullatåget."
Today, the road runs along the old railway embankment along Vista kulle's steep slope.
North of Huskvarna, you’ll find Småland’s very own Tuscany – Äppledalen, the Apple Valley. Here, over 100,000 apple trees grow at Rudenstams and Vistakulle Fruit Orchards. This idyllic getaway is part of the East Vätterbranterna Biosphere Reserve and offers breathtaking views over Lake Landsjön and Lake Vättern, scenic orchards, nature reserves, local leather craftsmanship, interior design shops, charming countryside cafés, and farm stores. It’s the perfect complement to the buzz of the city.
