27-meter high observation tower with breathtaking views
Save
Experience a real adventure and be rewarded with a stunning view. Tegnértornet, also known as Skogstornet, is 27 meters high and 351 meters above sea level. In clear weather, you can see the four nearby provinces of Småland, Östergötland, Västergötland, and Närke.
The adventure begins right at the parking lot. To reach the tower, follow the 1.3 km long trail. The trail is very hilly and part of the Holavedsleden, which connects to both Västanåleden and John Bauer-leden.
The hike goes through spruce forest, and it is an impressive feeling to suddenly see the tower rising above the treetops.
Once you reach the tower, you will find a large rest area with a shelter, outdoor toilet, and two barbecue areas.
Now, only one last challenge remains: 144 steps to reach the observation platform of Tegnértornet. Once at the top, you will be rewarded with an outstanding 360-degree view.
The tower was erected in 1971 on the initiative of the well-known sports enthusiast Torsten Tegnér, who had long been fascinated by the area around Gränna. The tower was placed in conjunction with Lennart Hyland's decision to transform Gränna Tidningen, from Sweden's smallest newspaper to Sweden's largest newspaper for one day.
A couple of days in Gränna holds everything you could wish for during your holiday. Stunningly clear water, breathtaking views, gentle walks in magical forests, history, cycling along beautiful country roads or challenging MTB tracks, relaxing to magical sunsets, strolls down cobblestone alleys, deliciously good ice cream and of course – the pepparmint rock candy.
By car
To reach Tegnértornet, take highway 133 (Tranåsvägen) east of the E4. Follow the road north, then follow the signs to Tegnértornet. After about 1.5 km, you will find the parking lot.
On foot
From the square in Gränna, you can follow Bergsgatan to the stairs up to Grännaberget. There are no signs, but you can follow the path from the parking lot towards the tower.
