A scenic cycling route around Landsjön
Save
Experience Äppledalen, often referred to as Småland’s Tuscany, from the saddle of your bike. You can start your tour from the pier in Jönköping or drive to Vistavallen in Kaxholmen and begin your ride from there.
If you choose to start from the pier in Jönköping, your journey begins with a beautiful ride along Lake Vättern and Vätterstranden, all the way to Huskvarna. From Huskvarna, follow Grännavägen towards Äppledalen and turn towards Vista Kulle.
At Vista Kulle, take a break, stretch your legs, and enjoy the breathtaking views before continuing along Vistakullevägen and turning towards Säby to begin the ride around Landsjön.
If you start from Jönköping, the total cycling distance is 45 km.
Once you’ve cycled around Landsjön, you can pass through Kaxholmen and roll down Grännavägen - a perfect opportunity for a coffee break at Rudenstams farm café and shop.
You can also begin your ride from Vistavallen, where parking is available. This shorter loop is 12.5 km, and you can choose to cycle clockwise or counterclockwise - both directions offer equally beautiful scenery.
While cycling around Landsjön, you will pass two swimming spots:
If you're in the mood for a coffee break, stop by Grafitgrå, where you can enjoy coffee, flatbread, and other delicacies. Grafitgrå also has a home décor shop.
You can also visit Gårdsrosteriet for freshly brewed coffee - just check the opening hours. Right next to it, you’ll find Vistakulle Fruktodling and their farm shop, where you can buy locally grown produce.
The route takes you through apple orchards, rolling landscapes, and lakeside paths. Take your time, cycle at a relaxed pace, and enjoy the sight of sheep and cows grazing in the pastures.
At the northern part of the lake, there is a birdwatching tower where you might spot bearded tits, jack snipes, bitterns, water rails, and reed warblers.
North of Huskvarna, you’ll find Småland’s very own Tuscany – Äppledalen, the Apple Valley. Here, over 100,000 apple trees grow at Rudenstams and Vistakulle Fruit Orchards. This idyllic getaway is part of the East Vätterbranterna Biosphere Reserve and offers breathtaking views over Lake Landsjön and Lake Vättern, scenic orchards, nature reserves, local leather craftsmanship, interior design shops, charming countryside cafés, and farm stores. It’s the perfect complement to the buzz of the city.
