One of Europe's finest wetlands
Save
Komosse nature reserve is one of southern Sweden's largest contiguous mires. The reserve is located between Småland and Västra Götaland, with rich birdlife, a wonderful hiking trail, and one of Sweden's largest butterflies, the Swallowtail.
Komosse offers a mysterious and magnificent mire landscape, with varying nature types and large untouched moss areas. The area is pleasant for a variety of bird species, and in summer, you can hear the song of the Eurasian golden plover. Both the green sandpiper and cranes nest here, and in the air, you can spot kestrels and buzzards hunting.
Most impressive of all is the majestic Swallowtail butterfly, one of Sweden's largest butterflies, found at Komosse.
Discover Komosse at Björnleden, which starts at the reserve's parking lot at Mörkö. The boardwalk trail is about 4 km long and leads you to the rest area at Lilla Björnö.
At the rest area, there is Femstenaröset, which marks the border between Småland and Västergötland. At Lilla Björnö, there are several barbecue areas and shelters with a wonderful view of Björnsjön.
At the beginning of the trail, there is a wood shed, where there should always be wood to take with you. If you feel like swimming, it is possible to swim in lake Trehörningen, located between the northern and southern parts of Komosse, at the height of Mörkö.
