Wonderful views between Gränna and Tranås

Experience the idyll up close, hike one of Småland's oldest trails between Gränna and Tranås. Holavedsleden runs through a Småland forest landscape and stretches over nearly six miles. Here you hike along both small paths and through hilly terrain, offering breathtaking views in places.

Holavedsleden is one of three Småland trails that run through Jönköping municipality. The others are John Bauerleden and Södra Vätterleden. Common to the trails is that they are marked with orange in nature and have rest areas with shelters.

Holavedsleden is a 59-kilometer point-to-point trail that runs between Grännaberget and Hättebadens camping in Tranås. You choose in which direction you want to hike the trail. The area around Gränna is characterized by smaller paths in hilly terrain, while the area closer to Tranås offers hiking along smaller forest roads. In several places along the hiking trail, you will find shelters, toilets, and fireplaces, making the trail perfect for multi-day hiking.

Sights along the trail

There is much to experience along Holavedsleden. For example, at Grännaberget, you will find Tegnértornet (Skogstornet), which is located 300 meters above sea level and offers extensive views.

You also pass near Iglasjön, where John Bauer is said to have drawn inspiration for several of his artworks. Near Örserum, it is recommended to make a short detour down to the village, which has a swimming area, shop, and restaurant in the form of Örserumsbrunn gestgifveri & konferens and Smålandsgården. If you are lucky, the micro bakery Eriks Bröd will be open, offering coffee and telling you about heritage grains and sourdough baking.

How to get here

To get to Grännaberget, take national road 133 (Tranåsvägen) east of the E4. Follow the road north, then follow the signs to Kaffestugan.

If you wish to travel by public transport, you can take regional bus 121 or regional bus 122, which runs between Gränna Hamn and Jönköping Resecentrum. Get off at the Gränna Södra parken stop. From the square in Gränna, you can follow Bergsgatan to the stairs up to Grännaberget.
