Tommy Emmanuel is one of Australia's most respected and beloved musicians and celebrated by many as the world's best guitarist. Now he finally returns to Sweden for six concerts in Sweden. One of the stops is at Jönköping Concert Hall. As a special guest, we see Frano.
“Songs are our teachers. They show us the depth of the human race and its unrelenting desire to create.” -- Tommy Emmanuel
Born in the Australian countryside, Tommy picked up his first guitar at the age of four and soon began touring with the family band across the homeland. Today he is 62 and has been touring the world for a long time, diligently. It is not uncommon for him to do over 300 gigs a year and dazzles the audience with his slightly unlikely and spectacular guitar playing and artistry.
He acts as a one-man band and handles the melody, the chords and the bass at the same time. Everything is done with incredible charisma, fantastic speed, dexterity and with an incredible sense of melody. Tommy Emmanuel is a master musician, one of the most exciting and sought after artists available.
An important part of his music making that is always mentioned is the joy. Yes, joy. Because it is one thing to play these multidimensional arrangements flawlessly on an acoustic guitar. But to do so with such a smile, with genuine and dedicated delight, is an irresistible invitation to know his music as deeply as he does.
“The joy, he says, “is there always because I'm chasing it through music. Seeing the surprise in peoples' eyes is worth living and working for... I can't help but play to the people with all my heart, which is overflowing with joy of being in that moment that I’ve worked all my life for. And here it is!”
Guitar legend Chet Atkins was one of the first to inspire Emmanuel to try the "fingerpicker" style as a child. Decades later, Atkins himself became one of Emmanuel's biggest fans. Emmanuel has been honored countless times in Guitar Player Magazine's reader polls, and Tommy is one of only five musicians, hand-picked by his mentor Chet Atkins, who was awarded the prestigious title of Guitar Player (CGP).
Tommy Emmanuel's award-winning career spans five decades and several genres such as jazz, rock, blues and country.
The last time he was in Sweden was in March 2018 when he visited Gothenburg, Stockholm, Jönköping, Kalmar, Norrköping and Malmö and gave us six fantastic concerts. That geniuses such as Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Joe Satriani and many people praise him as something out of the ordinary says a lot. This, together with outstanding reviews wherever he lands, makes us dare to promise that it will be an unforgettable evening.
