Annual bike adjustments

When the gravel has been washed away and the flowers start to grow on the ground it is time to bring back the bike. But there may be some things to fix on the bike before the new season.

Give your bike a little bit of love and care, it has taken you far, but it can take you further.

Wash the bike

If you did not wash the bike before you put it away for the winter, it's time now. Rinse off any dirt that has accumulated on the bike with a sponge and a little detergent. Apply a little degreaser on the chain, leave on for a few minutes and then wipe with a towel. It is important that you oil the chain immediately after washing and drying the bike, otherwise there is a risk of surface rust.

Check the tires

After the winter, it may be a good idea to check the tires. Make sure there is proper air in the tires, recommended pressure is often on the side of the tires. It can be an advantage to acquire a pump with an air pressure gauge to keep track of the pressure. Check that the tire is not too worn out.

Check the brakes

It is also important to check the brake pads and brake surfaces so that nothing looks too worn out. Try to use the brakes before setting out on the roads. You may sometimes need to retighten the brake wires if braking takes a long time.

Also check the chain, there are special tools to measure how worn the chain is and if it is time to change. You can usually find these tools at your local bike shop. Also check all bolts on the bike. At the saddle, handlebars, package holder and at the wheels. They must be properly tightened.
